KERALA BIRD WATCHING TOUR (12 Nights - 13 Days)
  I T I N E R A R Y
Day 1: Arrive Kochi
Arrive Kochi - the queen of Arabian Sea, meet our representative and transfer to hotel. Kochi is one of the finest natural harbours in the world, this was one of the major centre for commerce and trade with the British. On arrival check into the one of the hotel and over night stay Rain tree or similar
Day 2: Kochi
After breakfast, you can go for sightseeing of Kochi which includes the Jewish Synagogue, Mattanchery Palace, St.Francis Church and the Chinese Fishing Nets. In the evening one hour motor boat cruise through the Vembanad Lake to watch Dolphins,  disembark at Eranakulam and visit Mangalavanam Bird Sanctuary, Forty-one species of birds were recorded in Mangalavanam mangroves representing 25 families. The most common bird species found at Mangalavanarn were Little Cormorant and Black-crowned Night Heron. House Crow is however the villain here, the main predator of the eggs and nestlings of other bird species. Later drive back to Hotel. Overnight at Rain tree or similar.
Day 3: Kochi - Alleppey - Ourland

Drive to Alleppey via costal road enjoy village life and sea birds.  Check in at Our Land Resort and step into ultimate tranquility. Our Land (www.ourland.in) is an island resort in Kuttanad, one of the few places in the world where farming is done below sea level.

Well known for its avian population, the resort offers a range of bird watching spots for avid bird lovers, and more than hundred Species of birds can be seen in the island. Overnight stay at Our Land Resort.

Day 4: Ourland
Post breakfast you can take walks or cycle along the many pathways along the banks or walk through the rice paddy fields to enjoy the countryside and watch birds in the country side. Or you could utilize the canoe and small boat facilities to sail down the narrow canals. Overnight stay at Our Land Island Resort.
Day 5: Ourland - Vagamon

Drive to Vagamon. Check in Vanilla County.

It is an ideal tourist spot surrounded by the greenery of tea gardens, beautiful meadows, deep puzzling valleys and dales. Situated at an elevation of 1100 m above sea level, Vagamon is a trekker's paradise. Here you can check into Vanilla Country (Home stay) for a two-day stay. Vanilla Country is an enchanting Plantation villa, located near the origin of Meenachil River. It is set amidst plantations of vanilla, pepper, coffee and rubber. Overnight stay at Vanilla County.

Day 6: Vanilla County
The entire day you can get engaged in different activities like spice plantation visit, bird and butterfly watching etc. If you wish, you will be taken for elephant watching. Overnight stay at Vanilla County.
Day 7: Vagamon - Thekkady (Periyar wildlife Sanctuary)
Morning after breakfast, drive to Periyar Tiger Reserve is one of the finest wildlife & birding destinations in South India, with over 320 bird species identified and a leading habitat for the Bengal Tiger, this sanctuary is an ideal wildlife & birding tour. Asiatic elephants, Gaur, sambar, tigers and sloth bear sightings are possible on safaris into the forest. This is also an ideal place to sight the Great Hornbill. Overnight stay at Cardamom Club.
Day 8: Periyar
After breakfast start for trekking inside the forest area. In the afternoon visit a spice plantation. Overnight stay at Cardamom Club.
Day 9: Periyar - Munnar (Tented Camp)
Morning after breakfast go to Munnar via the Ghats to Khambam where we should sight the Large Grey Babbler, Common Babbler, Jungle Bush Quail and the Grey Fancolin. Then proceed to Bodi Ghats en-route Munnar and stop over for sighting the rare Yellow Throated Bulbul, Indian Robin, Sirkeer Malkoha, Short Toed Snake Eagle, Bluefaced Malkoha and the Black eagle. We will reach Munnar by evening. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at tented camp
Day 10: Munnar
After breakfast work through the tea plantation to watch birds in the sholas (high altitude montane forests) and grasslands for the Nilgiri Pipit, Painted Bush Quail, Nilgiri Wood Pigeon, Black and Orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Flycatcher, Whitebellied Shortwing, Broadtailed Grassbird, Grasshopper Warbler. Overnight stay at tented camp
Day 11: Munnar - Thattekkad
Drive to Thattekkad.
Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, also known as the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary is one of the richest bird habitats in peninsular India, comparable only with the Eastern Himalayas. There arrange kayaking expedition’s trips to discover the majesty of the thick forests across the river, short walks in the plantations that surround the camp and village visits for those interested in the Culture and lifestyles of the region. Overnight stay at Hornbill Camp
Day 12: Thattekkad

Thattekkad Bird sanctuary is the home for 340 species of birds including the migratory ones. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 25 square kilometers and is located between the tributaries of the Periyar River.

The fascinating birds that are found here are Blue Bearded Bee-eater, Malabar Trogon, Grey Jungle Fowl, Black Winged Kite, Brown Shrike, Crimson-fronted Barbet, Ceylon Frogmouth, Small Sunbird, Night Heron, Blue winged parakeet, White-bellied Tree pie, Indian Roller, Malabar Grey Hornbill, etc. The thick tropical deciduous and evergreen cover is a safe haven for these winged creatures. Overnight stay at Hornbill Camp.

Day 13: Thattekkad - Kochi Departure
